Information for Artists

The Inner North Art Prize is a community-based and community-funded inaugural art prize managed and supported by a group of local residents. The aim of the Prize is to connect local artists, art-interested residents and other supporters by creating a significant annual community art event for the Inner North.

Finalists for the Prize will be shown at the Inner North Art Prize Exhibition from Wednesday 14 November – Sunday 9 December 2018 at The Front Gallery and Cafe in Lyneham. Works in the exhibition may be offered for sale, at the artist’s discretion.

The Prize is non-acquisitive and consists of the following awards:

  1. $2,500 cash prize for the Selectors’ Choice Award
  2. $400 voucher for the People’s Choice Award sponsored by City Framing Gallery
  3. $500 cash prize for the Student Prize for emerging artists currently studying visual arts or design

Eligibility

The Prize is open to works created in the last 12 months by artists over the age of 18 living, working or studying in the following suburbs of Canberra’s Inner North region:

Acton, Ainslie, ANU, Braddon, Campbell, Civic, Dickson, Downer, Hackett, Lyneham, Mitchell, NewActon, North Lyneham, O’Connor, Reid, Turner, University of Canberra, Watson

To be considered for the Prize, artists must produce an artwork according to the terms and conditions of the competition and submit their entry via online submission before 7pm on Monday 8th October 2018.

How to Enter

  • A maximum of 2 entries will be accepted per artist.
  • A $25 (one entry) or $45 (two entries) fee is charged to cover administration costs. This fee includes one copy of the printed 2018 INAP catalogue, containing all works submitted to the prize. The entry fee is compulsory and non-refundable.
  • Shortlisted finalists will be selected and contacted by mid October, and all artists will be notified.
  • The winners will be announced at the Inner North Art Prize Finalists exhibition at The Front on Wednesday 14th November 2018.
  • A People’s Choice award will be announced at the conclusion of the exhibition (Sunday 9th December 2018) for the artwork deemed most popular, on the basis of votes lodged by visitors to the exhibition at The Front.

Selection Criteria

All entries and final works selected for the exhibition will be judged on:

  1. overall excellence
  2. originality and innovation in design or concept
  3. critical assessment of how the artwork addresses the award’s theme
  4. use of materials and technique

Entries will be assessed and selected for the exhibition/awards using photographs, so ensure you are submitting hi-resolution images of your artwork with your application. Multiple images are encouraged – particularly for sculptural works.
